Resetting the Battery of a Lenovo ThinkPad Laptop
Using the 'Emergency Reset Hole' to resolve battery issues.
Before we get started, you will need to...
- Shut Down your laptop completely.
- Remove the Power Cord from the laptop.
- Remove ALL accessories/peripherals from the laptop.
- Find a paperclip, or similarly sized piece of metal.

Your laptop should now be powered off - no lights or noises coming from it - unplugged from any peripherals and cables, and be laid upside down in front of you. You should now see something similar to the diagram above.
Locate the 'Emergency Reset Hole'. It is just a simple pinhole usually located near the bezel of the laptop. Do not confuse it with the larger screw holes.
Once located, use a paperclip and push the end in to the hole. Be gentle, but firm! You will feel a slight click when the button has been pressed. Press and hold the button for 70 seconds.
After 70 seconds has passed, release the button and flip over the laptop back to normal. Plug in the power cable (make sure to plug it in to the correct port that displays the power logo) and then turn on the laptop.
After resetting the battery and plugging the machine into power, the laptop should begin to power on and boot normally.
